College Fall Showcases
All over the country
at this time tournaments are being held
to show off the talents of fastpitch softball players in front of
College Coaches in hopes of catching their eye and getting a place on a college
roster and possibly a scholarship for college. The tournaments are for college
bound juniors or seniors and usually involve 4 games played of 2 days. These
are regulation games, certified umps
and
game scores are kept informally but there are no standings, no advancement or
tournament winners. Everyone is there to highlight the talent of individual
players. Each girl brings at least one page of biographical information containing
both academic and athletic statistics and accomplishments with them and that
information is available to college coaches attending. Their sheets contain
data on High School, travelball, camps, skills etc. The college coaches watch
the girls play under actual game conditions, in the past many of our local girls
have received full or partial scholarships to college after attending one of
the college showcases.

Rochester Thunder players get a
good workout from Coach Daron Fink in preparation for
their trip to the Kyle Miller College Showcase in Allentown Pa. in October.
This will be Coach Fink's 10th trip to the Kyle Miller Showcase.
